As reported below, 30 years ago today, R.E.M. released "Radio Free Europe". Why are we so stoked about this? Well for one, it's a rad song, but in all seriousness, without R.E.M., the landscape of rock and roll would be different. The band is responsible for bringing independent music to the mainstream, paving the way for alternative rock, grunge, and modern day indie rock. Without R.E.M., does a band like Nirvana break through? Does Arcade Fire win a Grammy? What exactly would've the cool kids gravitated towards? So let's celebrate, thank the masses, and listen to this track, because without R.E.M., the landscape of music would probably be worse.
