Grandpa Was A Lion - In A Dream

One of our YNFBs, Grandpa Was A Lion, have had a busy 2011. With a new album already out, the one-man band has just released a new EP. Archaic is a wonderful 5-song EP, that picks up where The Whalestoe Tapes left off. TV Girl - Benny and The Jetts

With a unique brand of melodic indie-pop, San Diego's TV Girl are back with a new song and EP. "Benny and The Jetts", the title track of the group's new EP, is a song that is undeniably catchy. It's a song that is extremely enjoyable and filled with great hooks and melodies. I highly suggest you download a copy of the band's EP here and check out "Benny and The Jetts" below.

Your New Favorite Band: Big Jesus

The state of Georgia has been home to a lot of amazing metal bands (Mastadon, Kylesa, Baroness, etc.) who have pushed the musical boundaries of the genre and have created some of the most amazing music in the last few years (i.e. Kylesa's Sprial Shadow, Baroness' Blue Record).

Atlanta's Big Jesus is primed, like their state-mates, to make a huge impact in the metal scene.

With a definitive early 90's sludge metal sound, but with a more "modern" take, the band's brand of metal is enjoyable not only for the typical fan, but for anyone who is not familiar with the genre.

They currently have an EP out on their bandcamp for FREE. I highly suggest you download a copy.

Enjoy "Ribs", the first song off their EP.

Your New Favorite Band: Airlines

With a self-described "island disco" sound, Airlines is a mysterious musical collective from Los Angeles, California.

Check out the very danceable, synth-driven track "Neon Moon". It's a song that is perfect for your summer parties.

"Neon Moon" can be found on Airlines' Visions digital EP. Pick up a copy here.

Video: Brain Idea - Oh I'm Free (Earn Your Card)

Chicago's Brain Idea have a new EP out called Cosmos Factory, in digital and 12" format, courtesy of Mexican Summer. The EP is full of tracks that recall the sounds and wonder of the music that came from New Zealand's Flying Nun Records during the 1980's and early 1990's. (Do yourself a favor and look up the music from this label during this time period. Excellent stuff.)

"Oh I'm Free", which can be found on Cosmos Factory, sounds like a lost gem from this era. I highly recommend picking up a copy of this EP.

Anyways, check out the rad video above and see if you can remember any of the commercials you see.

Your New Favorite Band: Fanzine

Like fellow Londoners Yuck, Fanzine is a band whose sound is very much influenced by the late 1980's/early 1990's distorted-fuzz power pop that dominated the college radio airwaves. (i.e. Dinosaur Jr., Teenage Fanclub)

They have a new EP out, Low, that you can stream below for FREE.

Or, you can download the band's own fanzine (hooray for meta humor) here to get the link to download your own copy of their EP.

It's a win-win for everyone.
